Commercial Plumbing and Heating Engineer - Shift - Alder Hey Children's Hospital

Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Commercial Plumbing and Heating Engineer to lead the planning and maintenance of the domestic hot and cold water and mechanical systems (LTHW, CT, VT, Piped Medical Gas and Compressed Air) on the Alder Hey Children's Hospital Account, a flag ship facility for Mitie. We require a solid track record in commercial plumbing and heating systems maintenance, a strong understanding of compliance with HTMs, and extensive experience in maintenance delivery. This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as the CP for mechanical and water systems (including hydrotherapy pools and microbiological water management), providing a platform for continuous learning and growth.

In collaboration with the Mechanical Supervisor, you will cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing and best practices within the local FM team. Your expertise will drive technical excellence and operational compliance.

Main Duties

-
-Work collaboratively as part of the estates team, to provide a full operation, maintenance, engineering and building mechanical service. Which meets statutory and contractual obligations.

-Reactive repair and maintenance of all piped systems / circuits

-Work with specialist BMS contractor to ensure all mechanical systems are running in line with design

-Component servicing and replacement including but not exclusive to

-Taps (TMT, TMV)

-Heater/Cooling Batteries

-Pumps and cold water booster sets

-Pressurisation units and expansion vessels

-RPZs

-Calorifiers and Plate heat exchangers

-Water Tanks

-Valves and commissioning sets

-Strainers and filters

-Active chilled beams

-Support and inputs into the operational risk register.

-Establishes a culture that expects right first time.

-Actively targets opportunities to exceed customer expectations.

-Creates an environment for Alder Hey wider team to seek improvement.

-Identifies challenges and defines methodologies that overcome these to deliver a safe and cost-effective solution that delivers the programme.

-Evaluates success of completed maintenance work and proposes improvements.

-Work efficiently and effectively to deliver assigned planned and reactive maintenance.

-Use PDA technology to evidence compliance with statutory and contractual obligations, and personal productivity.

-Carry out diagnostic checks and fault finding utilising multiskilled knowledge and experience supporting all estates teams within your own qualifications and or abilities.

-Complete all work related documentation accurately and in a timely manner

What we are looking for
-Strong level of commercial plumbing and heating engineering knowledge. Extensive experience as a Commercial Plumbing and Heating Engineer, with a strong preference for candidates with additional expertise in related building services, demonstrating versatility and a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems.
-Strong knowledge of wet heating systems

-Relevant technical qualifications in commercial plumbing and heating are essential, with a minimum of a full apprenticeship up to level 3 or a level 3 equivalent. Additional certifications or training in unvented systems or renewables would be advantageous.

-Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of resolving complex mechanical issues efficiently and effectively. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software is a plus.

-Effective communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team is highly appreciated. You will be fostering a positive work environment and sharing knowledge with colleagues and others, which is integral to our success.

-Proficient level of Health and Safety/CDM management.

-Planning skills. Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in using IT devices for work completion and generating detailed technical reports. Experience with maintenance management software is advantageous.

-Stakeholder management skills. Outstanding customer service and communication skills, focusing on building solid relationships with clients and stakeholders. Experience in addressing customer concerns and providing tailored solutions is essential.

-Customer care/relationship building skills.

-Ability to manage change successfully.

-Demonstratable MEP knowledge is desirable.

-Playing a key role in supporting social impact delivery.
