The UK is in the midst of its largest power infrastructure build-out in a generation. With the Government Clean Power 2030 target, National Grid&s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programme, and surging demand for HV substation Our client is a specialist contractor operating at the forefront of the UK’s power infrastructure sector. With a strong and growing pipeline of High Voltage substation and cable projects, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team.

You will play a critical commercial role — preparing robust, competitive tender submissions and working collaboratively with operational and planning teams to win and deliver projects that shape the UK’s energy future, experienced Estimators in the Power & Energy sector are among the most sought-after commercial professionals in construction today.

Candidates with HV substation estimating experience command a significant salary premium over general construction estimators — and the pipeline of work means your skills will only grow in value.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Assess tender opportunities and support senior leadership in bid/no-bid decision-making
  • Prepare and submit accurate, competitive tender submissions and cost plans in line with client requirements and internal governance (Bid Governance & Audit)
  • Utilise Candy Estimating software to price projects from first principles
  • Carry out drawing take-offs and measurement to produce BoQs and Pricing Schedules, in accordance with CESMM3/4 or NRM/SMM7 as required ​​​​​​​
  • Reconcile programme and resource requirements with the Planning Department
  • Prepare subcontractor and supplier enquiry packages; analyse and adjudicate quotations to ensure thorough inclusion/exclusion reviews
  • Confidently present bids at SMT/Board finalisation stage and directly to clients
  • Attend site visits across the UK (including remote locations) to assess project-specific requirements
  • Work collaboratively with Estimating, H&S, Planning, Commercial, Procurement, Finance and Business Development teams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key supply chain partners
  • Support PQQ preparation and maintain awareness of technical and market developments in the power sector
  • Minimum 5 years’ estimating experience in a relevant sector
  • Experience preparing budget Cost Plans and tender submissions
  • Background in civils and/or HV cable/substation projects (highly desirable)
  • Familiarity with Sharepoint or similar document management platforms
  • Understanding of bid scope for substation and cable connection projects
