Job Title: Ceramics and Print Technician
Department: Creative Arts and Fashion
Salary: £24,584 to £26,812 per annum
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time (35 hours per week)
The City of Liverpool College are seeking a Ceramics and Print Technician to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within the specialist areas of Ceramics and Printmaking through the provision of effective technical support to staff and students. You will play a key role in ensuring that studios, workshops, materials and equipment are prepared, maintained and operated safely to support an outstanding student experience.
Working as part of the Creative Arts and Fashion team, you will be responsible for the organisation, preparation and management of specialist resources, materials and tools, ensuring that facilities are fully equipped and ready for teaching, learning and project work.
You will provide hands on technical support to both staff and students, including working with individuals and small groups to demonstrate processes and support practical activity, under the guidance of teaching staff. You will contribute to the smooth running of workshops and studios, enabling students to develop confidence and competence in specialist techniques.
The role will also contribute to wider departmental activity, including supporting external projects, live briefs, exhibitions and shows. This includes assisting in the planning, preparation and installation of displays and ensuring a high standard of presentation and professionalism.
You will be expected to maintain a safe working environment, monitor equipment and materials, and support the ongoing development of workshop practices in line with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality technical support across the Ceramics and Print studios
- Oversee the safe and effective operation of specialist areas including kiln room, clay, plaster and printmaking facilities
- Prepare, set up and maintain equipment, tools and materials to support teaching, learning and project activity
- Demonstrate equipment and processes to staff and students, always ensuring safe and appropriate use
- Support teaching delivery by working with students individually and in groups to develop practical skills under lecturer guidance
- Use specialist knowledge in ceramics and print to support a professional, efficient and user-focused technical service
- Monitor, maintain and test equipment to ensure it remains in safe working order, including arranging servicing where required
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, servicing and technical operations
- Manage stock levels, consumables and resources, including ordering in line with financial regulations
- Support workshop organisation, layout and continuous improvement of facilities in line with industry standards
- Assist in the planning, preparation and installation of exhibitions, shows and external projects
- Work collaboratively with technical and teaching staff to support curriculum delivery, resource planning and service development
- Undertake risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and safe working practices
- Contribute to budget awareness, stock control, security procedures and compliance with financial and audit requirements
- Deliver a high standard of customer service, resolving technical issues and contributing positively to the wider work of the department and College
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant qualification at Level 3 in a ceramic, print or related subject area, or equivalent industry experience
- Significant, proven experience in a ceramic, print, arts related position, preferably in education
- Specialist knowledge of mould making, slip casting, and glaze technology and its associated chemistry
- Detailed understanding of electric kiln programming and operation including the correct loading techniques and firing atmospheres
- Specialist knowledge of printmaking techniques, including screen printing, and an understanding of associated materials, processes and safe working practices
- A willingness to undertake training in the operation and maintenance of other machinery and tools that are used across the wider school of Creative Arts and Fashion.
- Excellent computer literacy and ability to operate the current IT programmes of the college
- Ability to work both as a member of a team and independently using own initiative
- Have strong customer focus and communication skills
- Good practical skills and the ability to demonstrate to others
Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to use a wide range of workshop based equipment, portable power tools and hand tools safely and confidently
- Relevant maintenance knowledge within domestic, commercial and industrial applications
- Hold a current driving license
- Hold a recognised Health and Safety certificate, IOSH, NEBOSH
