Science Teacher | Outstanding Secondary Academy | Liverpool

Job Description

The Opportunity

Liverpool is a world-class city of culture, music, and maritime history, now globally recognised as a dynamic center for life sciences, clinical research, and materials chemistry. We are seeking an intellectually rigorous Science Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy. In this role, you will inspire students to master the empirical laws of the physical and biological world, utilizing Liverpool’s status as a global hub for scientific innovation and medical research to prepare the next generation of pioneers.

The Department & Scientific Culture

  • You will join a high-performing Science faculty where Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are celebrated for their academic excellence and high uptake at Key Stage 5.

  • The department boasts university-standard laboratory facilities and a dedicated team of specialist technicians, ensuring a curriculum defined by sophisticated experimentation and empirical inquiry.

  • As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritise a "first-principles" pedagogy—moving beyond simple facts to ensure students understand the fundamental scientific methods, ethical parameters, and theories that govern our universe.

  • We maintain active links with regional scientific institutions, local legacy universities, and the city's expanding Knowledge Quarter, providing students with unique insights into applied science and cutting-edge research.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with opportunities for A-Level instruction in your specialist discipline for suitably qualified candidates.

  2. Practical Leadership: Designing and executing rigorous laboratory investigations, ensuring students develop precise technical skills, analytical precision, and a deep respect for safety.

  3. Conceptual Clarity: Demystifying complex theories—from cellular biology and chemical kinetics to fundamental physics laws—making the microscopic and macroscopic worlds tangible for all students.

  4. Data-Driven Success: Utilising the academy’s robust assessment framework to identify and bridge learning gaps, ensuring all students are equipped to excel in their terminal examinations.

  5. STEM Advocacy: Coordinating extra-curricular initiatives, such as Science Fair projects, eco-sustainability clubs, or regional STEM challenges, to foster a culture of curiosity and professional ambition.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject authority who is passionate about cultivating a culture of evidence-based thinking and intellectual curiosity. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in a Science-based discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).

  • Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE and A-Level, with a deep understanding of AQA, Edexcel, or OCR assessment objectives.

  • Instructional Precision: The ability to explain abstract scientific concepts with clarity and flair, fostering a deep engagement with the natural world.

Why Join Us?

  • The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and Science is a flagship academic subject.

  • Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and specialised training in advanced pedagogical techniques.

  • The opportunity to work in Liverpool—a vibrant, welcoming city offering a rich heritage, an iconic waterfront, world-famous arts scenes, and excellent transport connections across the North West.

  • A prestigious professional community that values innovation, intellectual rigour, and the holistic development of every student.
